Diana Kendall American Dilemma

My personal life though not a very long one, has also experienced an American dilemma. This was especially in my neighborhood where by there is a mixture of Africans and Americans. This created an example of an American dilemma is the Negro problem.

This is due to race and color problems thus creating inequalities in every aspect of the day to day life of every American. The Negro problem is mostly founded on the pillars of racial relations which are characterized by discrimination of the inferior race. In this regard Africans discrimination is prevalent since they are the minority in this region and therefore they have a limited democracy.

The best way to approach this kind of dilemma is to first find its constituent elements which are mostly color of the skin. Therefore racial integration and focus on democracy rather than racism would be vital in this kind of approach. However, affirmative action should also be considered.
Symbolic interactionism is also called pragmatism and can be defined as the process of sociologically breaking down social interactions to small units and placing emphasis on these kinds of units. Symbolic interactionism is mostly applied in the psychology of leadership and this is why the leader is able to influence a particular group in any kind of day to day group or team setting.

Conflict theorists are the contrary of functionalism and they perceive social change as the function of struggles and hassles between different groups. To them working for a living would mean the social and psychological struggle experienced by one to earn a living out of competition with the factors or groups that would make him or her not survive.

Kendall evaluates inequality as the imbalance that exists in America between different groups, classes or races of people in terms of wealth, income and job opportunities. The advantages or pros of inequality is that it ensures guaranteed competition hence more productivity and also provides a plat form for interaction between various groups for people in terms of obedience and respect. The main disadvantage is that the inferior has little chance of attaining equality status due to suppression and lack of power. It also leads to oppression, conflicts and misunderstanding.

One dilemma topic from Kendalls is the income inequality. In this Kendall tries to analyze the gap between the rich and the poor in a given society. This is due to the fact that the rich have higher incomes than the poor. Inequality will not address the issue as the rich have capital for investment which adds on their wealth while the poor have just enough to fend for themselves
